Wednesday, March 29th, Napa High’s Track and Field team went against their strongest opponent, Vacaville High School.

With the JV Girls and Boys falling behind in the running events, it was made worse with the field events. Napa claimed victory in Varsity boys, but fell short everywhere else. With the JV team barely holding their own in the jumping events, the throwers had a lot of pressure to pick up the slack, and they succeeded in almost closing the gap in the JV division.

Varsity boys and Girls were at top performance and ran their best, claiming 2nd and 3rd almost all of their events, from running to jumping to throwing, helping Napa to at least close the gap between their opponents.

Napa ran their best, claiming victories in a few of the sprints, but got overwhelmed in the long distance events and the relays.  Napa made sure that even if Vacaville won in any event, it was just barely, giving everything they had to make sure that Vacaville didn’t get too confident.

Napa high 100, 200 and 4×400 meter runner Chevito Gallardo was “Proud of the team, because we gave it everything, put everything into every race, but at the same time, I always feel like we could have done better.” High jumper Ruben Villanueva feels similarly feeling like “We put our best effort into the meet, tried our hardest, and just came up a little short. It just means we have to train harder, so that next time, Vacaville will have to try even harder.”

Long jumper Kelsey Clarke believes “That we can always do better, get stronger and improve more, so that every team that we go against will have to give everything they have, and can’t afford to get overconfident in themselves.” Napa High school put everything they had into this race against Vacaville High School, and almost succeeded in pulling a victory out of the bag, but it just so happened that they sadly just fell short.
