When you are a Napa High Indian athlete, there’s somethings that you just can’t wait to do. One of these items is to play in a Big Game.

After devastating losses last year to rival Vintage Crushers, a 3-0 loss, a 12-1 loss and a 7-0 loss, the Indians varsity baseball team were hungry for revenge.

The first pitch was thrown at four, with the seating at Mount field completely full of rooters from both sides hoping to prove they are superior at baseball.

Napa started out strong with senior Felipe Gonzalez throwing a great first inning and eventually a gem of a game, only allowing Vintage a run in the fourth inning while in a bases loaded jam, and three hits the entire game.

“Felipe was fantastic, we had one opportunity against him, he minimized it and we only scored once,” said Vintage head coach Rich Anderson.

Napa was able to capitalize on Gonzalez’s’ pitching performance on the offensive side of their game too, scoring two in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth, and two in the fifth.

With Napa playing soundly on both sides of their game, a 7-1 victory appeared almost effortless for the Indians, taking the first of three games in this cross town feud.

Indians celebrate victory from Crushers.

“It feels amazing to take the first big game of the year,” said Gonzalez, “they were a challenge, but I did pretty good I think.”

With this win, Napa moves passed the Crushers in MEL standings to third place, with a 3-2-0 record.

“As a team, I think we are built to compete, and they did today.” Said Indians head coach Todd Pridy.
The Indians play second placed Will C. Wood next on 4/4/17 at Mount field, if the Indians win, they’ll move into second place in MEL standings.
